April 28, 2011

The Plunge can is in the water! It submerged at 8:37 p.m. on Friday evening, April 22nd, a new record. First place winner was Clarey Tryhus from Minot; Second place, Rosalie Day of Max; Third place, Debby Rasmussen of Parshall; and Fourth place winner was Diane Moore of Huntington Beach, CA. Congratulations to all the winners and the Max Park Board thanks everyone who purchased tickets to try their luck.

If anyone would be interested in driving a school bus for kids to go swimming at the YMCA in Minot this summer or even the mini bus (regular driver's license okay) in June or August, please contact Lynae Schroeder at 679-2505 for more information, as soon as possible.

The Senior Citizens' 190 page cookbook, Senior Favorites, can now be mailed out to you. The cookbook is $15 and the postage is $3.25 so if you want your cookbook mailed, please send $18.25 to Joyce Malling at P.O. Box #122, Max, ND 58759-0122. Any checks should be made out to Max Senior Citizens Center.

More signs are up stating Road Is Closed.....because of water! The Douglas road is closed so Douglas residents have to come south and then through Max to get to Highway #83. But when going east into Max, they have to travel through water on that highway! Highway #53 east of Max is now closed to through traffic -- last week it was 'Take Turns' driving through the water on the road. Some farmers are having to drive their tractors through deep water with their families, to get to dry ground where their vehicles await. When will it end? Not soon if the National Weather Service has it correct that May, June, and July will be cooler and wetter than normal. Even the 'old timers' have not seen things this bad. Roads that were raised two years ago, are now under water and impassable. West of the Dakota Boys Ranch in Minot, houses stand in water - roads not visible there either. The Souris River in Minot is staying within its banks, but not by much!

Here is an Easter Miracle that will put a smile on your face, despite the flooding issues. On Easter Sunday morning we arrived at church in west Minot to find a very beautiful and tame Bassett Hound dog at the church door. A member thought he recognized the dog so made a few phone calls - and yes, it was their dog. This dog had been missing for at least two weeks - from where you ask - from a home south of Max!! What an Easter blessing for the dog and his family!
