From "In the Loop" April 9, 2010

We have a winner!

Well, winners, actually.

The Max Plunge ended at 3:29 pm on April 8th when the jumbo can poised on the ice of Elbow Lake in Max fell through. The winning guess fell within one minute of the time of submersion. Second and third places guessed within two minutes, and fourth place within three minutes of the plunge. That's some great guessing!

The top four winners were:

1st: Chad Wimer of Garrison - $500

2nd: Jason Strand of Surrey - $250

3rd: Amanda Iverson of Bismarck - $100

4th: Paul Schlichting of Garrison - $50

Max Park Board member Raymond Iverson reported that the Plunge was a great success this year, raising $200 more than last year for Max Parks. He says that most of the proceeds from the Plunge will go to purchasing new picnic tables for the city parks.

Congratulations to all Max Plunge 2010 winners!

April 8, 2010

The Max News is written each week by Margaret Zaderaka.

Once again most everyone in the area has their electricity! You wouldn't expect a storm in early April to cause poles to break and lines to come down, but they did. Maybe spring will show up soon.

The Max High School prom is this coming Saturday evening, with the Grand March starting at 8 p.m. It is open to the public so you can see all the beautiful gowns and handsome tuxedos. We hope the students will have good weather and have a wonderful and safe time.

Monday, April 12th the Max Civic Club will meet at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center. On Friday, April 16th the Max High students will be performing their play at 1:30 in the afternoon and again in the evening at 7 p.m.

But before that is Dairyland Donkey Basketball, sponsored by the Max Boys Basketball Team. This will be on Thursday, April 14th, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Max School gym. This can also be called the "Craziest Show on Earth!" The first game will be the Fantastic Cossacks vs. Max Dynamite Faculty with the second game the Max Ranchers vs. the Max Superstars. Tickets are required for those in first grade through adult and can be purchased from the Max Boys BB players or you may contact the Max School at 679-2685.

But there is more - there will be free donkey rides for kids 12 years old and under! This will definitely be a fun-filled night of basketball! Come enjoy it!

There will be a Baby Shower for Athena Louise, daughter of Becky Schmaltz & Ed Kranz on Saturday, April 17th at the Max Senior Center at 2pm. Everyone Welcome!

The Max Public School is collecting data to estimate future class sizes. You are to contact the school at 679-2685 if you have a child who is 4 years or younger.
