The community is again saddened with the death of Archie Zahursky, former Max farmer. Archie had been in poor health the last several years. His wife, Mavis, resides in Minot. We extend our sincere sympathy to Mavis and the family.

The address for Irene Borchert, widow of former Max School Superintendent Warren Borchert, has been requested. It is: 1315 Meredith Drive, Bismarck, ND 58501. Her phone number is 223-3328. I'm sure she would love to hear from her friends in Max. If she has already moved to Omaha, Nebraska to live with her daughter Karen, her mail will be forwarded.

The Good News Club meets at the school on Mondays at 3:15. Ben Vinje out of Minot leads the meetings. Ben is associated with Child Evangelism. The Mondays remaining for the meetings are Oct. 25th, and Nov. 1st, 8th, and 15th. All kids are welcome and they will enjoy the gatherings.

Former Max resident Margaret Scurlock had company on Sunday at the Benedictine Center in Garrison. Visiting Margaret were her sister Phyllis Narum and her daughter Jill Vittitow and children Olivia and Blake from Bardstown, KY. Also visiting were Margaret's other sisters, Lorna Sambor and Lila Fannik of Max.

On Monday, Mary Lushenko and her daughter Shirley and her husband John Sizemore visited with Margaret Scurlock and also with Frances Spitanik at The Meadows.

The Sunnyslope Homemakers Club met on Tuesday at Phyllis Narum's home. Six members were present and visitor Jill Vittitow of Kentucky. Each one answered roll call to what they are thankful for.

This coming Saturday, Carolyn Barden and Lila Fannik will drive to Killdeer to Tim and Sally Dvirnak's to attend their grandson Atticus Westley Krenz's baby shower. His parents are Lizzie and Kory Krenz.

Reminders: the Max Public Library would like donations of books that they may sell. They also request items or services to be raffled off at their Soup and Sandwich event in February. Please notify the library of items and/or services you are going to donate by October 25th.

The Max High Girls and Boys basketball players from grades 9 through 12 are selling tickets for a raffle to support the teams. Contact Dennis Fannik or Mr. McQueen with any questions and you may purchase the tickets from any of the players.

The final reminder is for recipes for the Max Senior Citizens' cookbook that will be sold during the All School Reunion held in July, 2011. These recipes are needed by Dec.31, 2010. The Seniors' Oct. potluck and meeting is this Friday at noon.

This coming Sunday, Oct. 24 is Immaculate Conception Catholic Church's Soup and Sandwich Luncheon from 11-1 p.m. On Oct. 30th the Max Civic Club's Steak Fry will be held from 5-8 p.m., with a dance to follow. The Max Park Board is sponsoring the Dough Boy Breakfast on Sunday, Nov. 7th from 9:30-1 p.m. Refer to the back of this month's Community Calendar for details on these meals.
