AARP ND is holding a meeting in Minot on October 13th, regarding the future of Social Security and Medicare in North Dakota and we want to invite you to attend this event. You are asked to pre-register by phoning 1-877-926-8300, This event will be from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Grand International Inn, 1505 N. Broadway, in Minot, on October 13th, a Thursday.

The 12 members of the newly appointed Congressional "supercommittee" are meeting on their assigned task - ways to reduce our nation's debt - and some want to put Social Security and Medicare benefits on the table for cuts. This small group could make big decisions about the future of benefits over the next two months. Cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits could have a devastating impact on tens of thousands of North Dakotans. Working with accurate information and sharing constructive solutions is the best way to influence these important decisions. If you have questions or would like additional information, email lhalvorson@aarp.org.

Saturday, October 15th is the Re Grand Opening of the Max Cafe. More details later on.

Attention, everyone on Medicare: This year there's a new earlier deadline if you want to change your Medicare coverage for 2012. Open enrollment now runs from October 15 to December 7 (instead of November 15 to December 31 as in previous years.) Open enrollment gives you the chance to switch to another Part D prescription drug plan. If you change plans by December 7th, your new coverage begins January 1st. If you don't change, your current coverage will likely continue through 2012 unless specific situations (such as receiving Part D Extra Help) allow you to switch plans during the year.

October 29th is the Max Civic Club's Annual Steak Fry and Dance. Get your tickets early.
