April 14, 2011

There has been a tragedy in Grand Forks - the home of Marilyn Iverson burned Saturday morning, April 2nd. No one was injured but they lost everything. The basement was spared but because there is no electricity, the sump pumps in the basement aren't running so the basement is now full of water. So what wasn't lost in the fire, the water ruined. With all the flooding, the water table is high in her area. There is a benefit account set up at Bremer Bank in Max and you may call Candace and Ray Iverson at 721-1745 or Heather Iverson Lee at 679-2025 to find out what other needs they have.

The Max Senior Citizens hosted the McLean County Council meeting on Monday with 51 attending. The speaker was from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for the State of North Dakota. Mike may be contacted at 1-888-862-7342 or at (701) 328-8984 for advice and information on Low Vision and for equipment available to help you. .

Are you tired of cooking and then having to clean up the kitchen? The Max Senior Citizens have Meals on Wheels every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at noon. They are very reasonably priced. You do need to call in the day before you plan to come so they can plan accordingly. These meals can also be delivered to your home. Phone 463-2320 which is a Garrison number and not long distance. Come join the others as you share this delicious food - you deserve to be served!

The Max Public Library on Main Street, located in the Civic Center, is closed through April 25th for renovations. It will be exciting to see and use the 'new' library! It will re-open on April 26th.

Lila Fannik, Carolyn, Alan, and Will Barden drove to Dickinson on Sunday to attend the gathering for Kay Dvirnak's 90th birthday, which is April 6th. We were at Kay's daughter and husbands' home - Deb and Monty Greenup of Dickinson. Many others and family also attended. It was a special day for everyone. Kay is Lila's sister-in-law, George's sister. Kay's sons, Tim and Sally of Killdeer and Wayne and Ingred of Colorado were there also to wish their Mother a Happy 90th Birthday.

Many from Max attended Kirby Carlson's benefit held last Sunday in Douglas. Kirby is Peggy Osadchy's brother. Let's remember Kirby in our prayers, that health will return to him.

Tonight, Thursday April 14th there will be an Alumni Meeting at 7:00 at the school. The reunion is only a few months away, so help get all the plans made.

There is no school on Good Friday, April 22nd but Easter Monday, the 25th, will be a storm make-up day with school in session.

Because of Good Friday, the Senior Citizens will not be having their potluck and meeting on the fourth Friday as usual, but will be meeting on Friday, April 29th at 6 p.m. instead. Come enjoy, join, eat and hear their future plans.

Water is making its way over roads in Max and in the country but we are so fortunate not to have the flooding other areas are having.
