August 6, 2009

We extend our sincere sympathy to Lydia Pettys' family. Such a sweet little lady, always with something to give, whether it was by playing the piano, crocheting, or visiting and by many other ways. She was known by many in the area and many of us wish we'd known her better.

This coming Friday and Saturday is Max's 30th. Annual Rodeo. The performance on Friday starts at 6 p.m. and starts on Saturday at 5 p.m. Mutton busting will be held each evening.

The Saturday of the rodeo week-end are the Max City-Wide Garage Sales. Maps will be available at the Cenex C-Store or Bremer Bank on Main Street. As a member of the "Over 55 Club", our group is also having a rummage sale in our building, with the proceeds going towards the ongoing success of the Over 55 Club (Senior Citizens). Hotdogs, coffee and a cool beverage will be served in the Over 55 Club building. It is air conditioned for your comfort. A note to the members, you may bring your priced rummage items to the building anytime before Saturday morning. All of these rummage/garage sales will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. A note of interest, the city of Benedict east of Max is also having their City-Wide Garage Sales this same day, so you will have plenty of sales to go to!

Please make note of the following change: The Max School Alumni Association Reunion Committee meeting scheduled for Sunday, August 9th at 2 p.m. in the Commons Room of the Max High School has been postponed to September 13th at 2:00 pm at the same location. Officers are to be decided, committees formed, and your input is needed so that a very successful Max High School Reunion will be held. Please refer to last week's news for details on the officers needed and committees needed. On the http://www.maxnd.com/ website you may log onto the school website where you will find a pre-registration form, area to sign up for committees and information on the event. The school website is http://www.maxnd.com/alumni.html.

This coming Monday, August 10th at 6 p.m. the Max Civic Club will be meeting. Lunch will be served.

Friday evening August 14th, John and Kathy Swanepoel will be celebrating their wedding and everyone is invited to their wedding dance on Main Street in Max. The Social begins at 6 p.m. with the dance starting at 8 p.m. with the band "All Aces". There is no charge to get into this dance. You may want to bring your lawn chairs so you can sit while you enjoy the music and the fresh North Dakota air.

Please look at the back of your August Community Calendar as there are several job openings at the Max Public School that may interest you or someone you know. And also, don't forget about donating to the new bleachers at the school.
