February 28, 2014

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Daniel Pozarnsky, 89. Daniel passed away Saturday in a Minot Hospital.

We also extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Bertha Wagner, formerly of Max. Bertha passed away at the age of 101 on Valentine's Day. She is a 1932 graduate of the Max High School. She and Rudolph Wagner raised five sons; Wallace; Weldon; Virgil; Arden; and Kermit.

I have received a letter from Marcee Poleshuk Thompson of Elk River, Minnesota, daughter of Margaret and Bill Poleshuk. Margaret has had to be hospitalized recently because of severe back pain.  After a few days she was able to come home and Marcee describes the trip home, driving through trees bent over with wet snow, as driving through tents to get to their house.

Margaret Poleshuk is 97 now and mentally alert. She has macular degeneration so gets books on tape from the Library for the Blind and goes through about 7 or 8 of them a week. She is very cooperative and cheerful in the hospital and at home. She is living with her daughter Marcee and her family.

The winter Elk River and Minneapolis area is having is quite similar of the 'usual' winters in North Dakota. They live on the Mississippi River, which is open now, and the swans are enjoying it. They watch fox, possums, deer, wild turkeys, geese, eagles, and even a bear enjoying their yard.

There will be the noon potluck and meeting of the Max Senior Citizens this Friday, February 28th.  Salad ingredients will be provided so make your potluck donation small. (Not as much food.) It is also time for your yearly membership to be paid.

Watch out for the ice.....with below zero temperatures, it is here to stay awhile!
