January 10, 2013

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of JoAnn Olson who passed away in a Minot Nursing Home. She was married to Marvin Olson. Her funeral was Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. She was only 76.

Today, the 10th, at 1 p.m. and again on January 17th at 7 p.m., there will be training sessions on Overdrive and Zinio. This is a library program for Books, Audiobooks, and Magazines, to use on your computer, iPad, iPod, Nook or Kindle. These items are available to use for free with your Max Community Library card. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Hauf, Director of the Max Community Library at 679-2263 or e-mail her at maxlib@rtc.coop.

Ladies of the community and surrounding area are invited to St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Wednesday, January 16th for a day of quilting and fellowship. The fun will begin at 10 a.m., with a potluck lunch at noon, and usually ends by 3 p.m. You can come for a few hours or the whole day. Future gatherings will be determined by those attending. If you have questions, contact Sandy Hauf or Kathy Huettl.

Do you remember? It was January 15th, 2010 when the Max Cafe opened. They will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary with a special event later in the month. Watch for details.

Another housing request is on the Max website from Chelsea of Garrison. "Hello, my husband and I are looking to buy a home in Max because I work in Minot and he works in Garrison. Please let me know if anyone knows of any available homes (that are reasonably priced) or even a little land to build would be great. Thanks!" Contact Tamra Huesers of Max if you can help this couple out. She will then get ahold of them.

Virginia Sides of Stockbridge, Georgia came to spend Christmas with her Mother, Lila Fannik and family and friends. It was really wonderful having her here, her Mother said.

Eugene and Margaret Zaderaka's son, Dean, and his wife, Heidi, were able to take in all the fun times with the N.D.S.U. game in Frisco, Texas this past Saturday. The most memorable day was Sunday, January 6th when three cousins were able to get together; Edward from Frisco; Kevin from Paradise, Texas; and Dean from Minot, North Dakota. That day, January 6th, would have been their Grandfather Geiszler's 108th birthday so the whole day was special for them. Their Mothers are Florence Wiest from Wishek; Elaine Fischer from Garrison; and Margaret Zaderaka from Max, all Geiszler girls. It has been 30-40 years since these cousins were last together.

This Saturday, January 12th the Max Junior Varsity Boys basketball team will be playing Our Redeemer's Christian School at Our Redeemer's in Minot, at 4 p.m. A former little Max boy, now a young man, plays on Our Redeemer's Junior Varsity team; Cole Zaderaka, son of Mark and Lori Zaderaka who once lived in Max. The boys' Varsity teams play at 7 p.m. The girls' Junior Varsity teams from Max and Our Redeemers play at 2:30 and the girls' Varsity teams play at 5:30. Games are at 2:30, 4 p.m., 5:30, and 7 p.m.

Monday, January 14th at 7 p.m. is Max Civic Club.

Put this on your calendar: The Max Community Library's Annual Soup and Sandwich Lunch will be Sunday, February 10th. More details later.
