July 2, 2009

The community is saddened with the sudden death of Ella Hegney, 87 years. Ella lived in Max, joining the Max Senior Citizens' Club, and others. She only recently moved to an apartment in Minot. Her funeral will be Thursday, today, July 2nd. at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Max. Our sympathy goes out to Ella's family, of whom Sandy (Alfred) Hauf and Lonie (Garry) Hauf are her daughters.

Good news has been received about Archie Zahursky that he is now a patient at St. Joseph's Rehab. in Minot and is steadily gaining strength. The update on Sharon Strilcov this evening tells she will be on her way home to Minot by the week-end and does not have to return to Mayo Clinic or for treatments until July 21st. and 22nd.

Virginia (Fannik) Sides from Stockbridge, Georgia and her grandchildren Taylor (13) and Collin (9) Sides from McDonough, Georgia came to spend a week with Lila Fannik, Dennis, Karla, Shawna, and Casey Fannik and Robert, Carolyn, and Will Barden. This was Collin's first time and Taylor's second time to come to North Dakota. They enjoyed all the animals on the farm and getting to know their cousins.

Kristy Fannik and Melissa Mehlhoff of Arena, N.D. brought horses to Max to let them ride in the rodeo arena. They got to attend the P.B.R. Bull-arama at Bismarck.

They flew home to Georgia on Sunday, but would have loved to have stayed longer.

News from the very well attended Senior Citizens' meeting Friday evening is that their "Tea Party and Quilt Show" is scheduled for July 11th., a Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Max Senior Center (The Over 55 Club). The Senior Citizens will be having quilts or quilted items on display - items they have made, have been given, or have inherited. You will be treated to tea or coffee in Bone China cups and your servers will refill your cups from fancy tea pots. All this will be at decorated tables with tea cup/tea pot themed decorations. Tea sandwiches and bars will be served. Admission is $5, and there are many-many fabulous door prizes to be drawn for throughout the two hour time. This is a fundraiser for the ongoing success of the Max Senior Center.

During the City Wide Rummage Sale, August 8th., the Senior Citizen Center will also have donated items for sale, with the proceeds again going towards the ongoing success of the center.

July 30th is Senior Day at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot. The bus may be going up for this.

July 18th the Annie Rovenko Estate auction will be held at her house in Max. Have you noticed there are three houses for sale right in that area? Let's fill them up - spread the word that Max has room.
