February 28, 2013

We extend our sincere sympathy to Ethel Hauf and family in the loss of their Erwin. He was 92. His funeral will be Saturday, March 2 at St. Matthew's Church in Max at 10:30.

Martha Rovenko has passed away at the age of 93. Many of you may remember her from her working days at Trinity Hospital and especially in the nursery. Her funeral will be today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot.

Last week I told you about the minus 40 degree wind chill advisory. Today the temperature was 40 degrees above!  That is North Dakota for you. Purchase your tickets for the pop can Plunge, especially if spring has arrived!

On Friday, March 1st at 7 p.m. there will be a joint service with all the churches for World Day of Prayer. This will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Max. Gerald Olson of Washburn will be speaking. Gerald was badly burned several years ago and will be giving his testimony. Everyone is welcome.

The Max Library Partners Annual meeting is coming up March 5th, Tuesday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Max Community Library and anyone that is interested is welcome to come.

On Sunday, March 10th the Max Senior Citizens will be serving breakfast at the Civic Center in Max. There will be a silent auction of hand crafted items by the Senior members, and a few surprises. Come enjoy!

There is an entry in the Guestbook in the Max website. This is a compliment and a request from Ralph Brauer of 14419 Waco Street, Ramsey, MN 55303, tsc@mtn.org:

"Many years ago during a bad snowstorm I was following a semi down from Minot. As the storm became worse I saw the sign for Max and decided to pull off because my son's name is Max. I asked if anyone had any Max hats and was treated to a tour of the town. You have the friendliest people anywhere. I left town an hour later with several hats. Little did I know the people of Max may have saved my life as further down the road in the ditch was the semi. The patrolman told me they weren't sure the driver would make it. Had I not stopped in Max I would have been right behind that truck - I wore my Max hats proudly after that. Not surprisingly they were good luck in fishing and for my son's college ball games. Unfortunately my Max hats have become pretty worn with many, many washings so I am writing to see if I could purchase some more. It doesn't matter what they are as long as they say "Max." Take care and hope everyone who treated this stranger like a friend is doing well."

"Make up your mind to be happy. Learn to find pleasure in simple things." Robert Louis Stevenson
