The chimes at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Max were playing patriotic songs on Memorial Day - a beautiful sound to listen to. These chimes were purchased with memorial money, in memory of Arnold Schmidt, by his wife Marian and sons Kendal and Warren. The chimes have a gong that goes off at every hour in the same number as the hour. 1 o'clock, 1 gong; 5 o'clock, 5 gongs. The chimes play at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Depending on the weather and wind, the beautiful chimes can be heard quite a distance away. What a wonderful addition to our city!

There is a bit more to report on regarding the Sunnyslope Homemakers 60th anniversary celebration held in Minot. Fourteen members along with two Bag Ladies enjoyed the time together. Hats were provided for each one to wear. Karen Polsfut of Max was their Bag Lady with another Bag Lady In Training adding to the festivities. Look for the pictures from this event.

The Good News Club met on Tuesday after school at the Max School Cafeteria. There were 14 children in attendance. Ben Venje led the club. It is encouraging to hear the Good News Club continues on, despite the Max Baptist Church being sold. The Club used to meet at this church.

Harold and Virginia Sides of Stockbridge, Georgia arrived to spend a week in Max with Virginia's Mother, Lila Fannik, and with other family and friends in the area. They left for home on May 13th.

Have you seen the posters around town with the 'hatching egg'? That refers to the reworked Max Web site that Tamra Huesers is upgrading for the community. This will be going up on June first. But right now the news blog is in operation and you may access it from this link: http://maxnorthdakota.blogspot.com/ . If anyone has any photos of local people and events, they are welcome on the website. Tamra would like to include them on pages throughout the site but if she gets alot of photos, she will turn them into a slideshow on one of the major pages. You may e-mail your photos to Tamra at tamraj@rtc.coop. For those who cannot send pictures this way, I'm sure Tamra can help you get your pictures to her somehow. Lila Fannik had a wonderful Mother's Day with her family of Dennis, Karla, Casey, Shawna Fannik along with a friend Jesse; Carolyn, Alan, and Will Barden; and her sister Phyllis Narum of Douglas and her daughter Virginia and Harold Sides of Georgia.

Lila Fannik, Virginia and Harold Sides, Carolyn and Alan Barden went to Killdeer to visit at the Tim and Sally Dvirnak's home where Elmer and Kay Dvirnak, John and Alice Dvirnak and Debbia Greenup also came to visit. The following week Kay Dvirnak fell and broke her hip and leg so is a patient in a Bismarck hospital.

The Max Senior Citizens met for their May potluck and meeting. Great things are happening that will be open to the public, each month of the summer. June 18th. the Seniors will be serving the Linda and Duwayne auction in Max. In July you will be invited to attend a Tea Party and Quilt Show at the Senior Center. Watch for further information.

Reminders: Starting June first, the Centennial Cafe will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday but will not be open on Sundays in June, unless otherwise posted. The highway crew is starting to completely redo Highway 83 from one mile north of Max to the Garrison corner, so you may be seeing Max's population increase and business places kept busier.

The 2009 Summer Reading program at the Max Public Library will be starting in June. Vanessa Kramer will be in charge of this. And on June 7th. at 2 p.m. there will be another alumni meeting at the school to plan the 2011 All School Reunion. Again, visit the new Max blog site and watch for the hatching of the new Max website on June first.
