For you snowbirds, Brrrr is the popular word
again this week. Today, Thursday, January 31st a minus 50 degree wind chill was
forecast for early morning.
The community has a lot of its population down
with the flu, of all different types. Type A influenza took the life of Everett
Johnson, formerly of the Benedict area. We extend our sympathy to his family
and friends.
Others have Type A also. The hospitals everywhere and nursing
homes are restricting their visitors.
This coming Monday, February 4th the Child
Evangelism Good News Club will meet in the school. They will meet on February
11th, 19th, and 25th.
The Max Community Library's Annual Soup and
Sandwich Lunch is Sunday, February 10th.
Tonya Balaban and I have received a letter from
Scott A. Elstad who works for the ND Game and Fish Department out of Bismarck.
He writes:
Part of my job is to develop 'urban fisheries'
around the state. Our district fisheries biologist out of Riverdale has
mentioned to me that the Pond in the City of Max would be a nice pond to
develop a short term (May-June) fishery. We target the younger anglers (kids)
but allow everyone to utilize these fisheries that we have developed in
numerous fisheries throughout North Dakota. If you have any interest in
developing this pond we would be glad to meet with your commission or mayor to
go over plans. Basically for this pond we would develop access by removing
vegetation along the shoreline in select areas and sediment out into the pond
approximately 50 feet. The ND Game and Fish Department would pay for the
renovation to the pond. The pond in Max isn't deep enough to support a year
round fishery but as I said, would support a trout fishery for the months of
May and June - maybe even into July depending on weather. (He is referring to
the pond directly south of the new Cenex.)
