September 2, 2010

This coming Monday is Labor Day, September 6th. There will not be school in Max that day. But the following Sunday will be a busy day, starting with the Grandparent's Day Breakfast at the Max Civic Center. They will be serving pancakes and sausage from 9:30 until 12:30. Free will offering proceeds will help defray costs for the Community Calendar, which you receive free. This is sponsored by Max Civic Club. After you have eaten, and taken a short nap, come to the alumni meeting at 3:00 at the school, this same Sunday, September 12th. Day by day the All-School reunion gets closer to happening, summer of 2011. The public is invited to come to this meeting and hear what is being planned. You may even have an idea or two to share.

The Max Senior Citizens will be publishing a new cookbook. Favorite recipes can be submitted online. The website is www.gandrpublishing.com; the user name is cossacks and the password is over55. It is very easy to submit recipes this way and very helpful to the group. If it is not possible for you to submit your recipes online, please mail them to Joyce Malling, P.O. Box 122, Max ND 58759. You can also give them to any Senior Citizen member. The deadline for the recipes is December 31, 2010.

On Sunday afternoon Lila and Lorna visited Margaret Scurlock at the Benedictine Living Center. The three then had coffee in The Meadows' dining room with Frances Spitanik, Ron and Peggy Osadchy, Carol Frank, Lozina Frank, Lenore Huettl and others. They also stopped by to bring birthday wishes to Helen Jacobson in the nursing home. Isn't it wonderful how these ladies visit others! We could do that, too, and we should. Someday we may want others to visit us!

"Often the most loving thing we can do when a friend is in pain is to share the pain - to be there even when we have nothing to offer except our presence and even when being there is painful to ourselves." M. Scott Peck
