January 23, 2014

There is a new housing request on the Max website from Chris Gagne. "I am a newly hired sheriff's deputy for McLean County and am looking for something to rent for my spouse and I in the northern part of the county." Chris Gagne cp.gagne1@gmail.com

Contact Tamra Huesers in Max if you do not have access to email. If you can help this couple out, Tamra will contact them for you. Thank you!

Upcoming event is Max Senior Citizens' potluck and meeting at noon on Friday, the 24th.

And 'long ago' happenings were a water tower fire in Max, written up in the Ward County Independent on January 28, 1954...and very cold weather. A fire was kept burning in the building below the water tower so the water wouldn't freeze but the stove pipe got too hot and started the building's roof on fire. The fire was extinguished by the fast work of the fire department.

And the other 'happening' was that of a long time Max resident, now deceased, returning to his home from working in the oil fields at Tioga, stating 'it was just too cold to be working outside.'

"There is no such thing in anyone's life as an unimportant day." Alexander Woollcott
