October 14, 2010

The citizens of Max have just gone through a very difficult week with the deaths of four of its former residents. Connie Strilcov Dunlap, Eugene Zenz, Emma Schnaible, and former Max School Superintendent Warren Borchert have all passed away. Connie passed away in Minnesota at her son's home, while Eugene Zenz passed away in the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Emma Schnaible passed away in a nursing home in Minot and Warren Borchert passed away in Bismarck. Several Max alumni attended his memorial service on Friday. He passed away on October 4th at 91 years of age. He had been in failing health for several years. His body has been donated to research. His widow, Irene, will move from Bismarck to Omaha, Nebraska to live with their daughter, Karen. Karen graduated from Max in 1964. We extend our sincere sympathy to all of their families and friends.

This coming Sunday is another All School Reunion meeting at the school at 3:00. October 24th will be Immaculate Conception Catholic Church's Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. October 30th is the Max Civic Club's Annual Steak Fry and Dance. On November 7th the Dough Boy Breakfast will be held.

The Max Public Library's Halloween party will be Friday, October 29th from 3:30 to 5:00.

The library is also requesting donations of books that may be sold. Items or services to be raffled off are also needed. The raffle items are needed by October 25th. Tickets for the raffle will start selling by December 1, 2010. This is for their Soup and Sandwich event held in February.

The Max High Girls and Boys basketball players from grades 9 through 12 are now selling tickets for a raffle that will raise money to support the teams. The raffle winners will be announced at each of the home games from November 30th to February 19th. Contact Dennis Fannik or Mr. McQueen with any questions.

Don't forget your recipes for the Max Senior Citizens' cook book.

Upper Room Teens joined together with teens from Ryder, Makoti, and Max on September 22nd and 23rd for the Twentieth Anniversary of "See You at the Pole". This event is held annually in the month of September. It is a national "student led" prayer event that meets at the school flag pole early in the morning and all pray for the school, teachers, fellow students and the nation. The events were led at Max by Juria Bigelow and at Makoti by Julie Peterson. There were a total of fifteen in attendance at the See You at the Pole events at Max and North Shore High Schools. Students and parents braved cold weather to join together for prayer!
